About

HI I’m Pie!

On the 15th of September 2015 I completed a Thru-Hike of the 2189 mile (3523km) Appalachian Trail. I started on the 5th of March, taking 6 months and 10 days to complete this wonderful adventure.

pieonthetrail.com was originally conceived as a space to share my adventure with friends and family, it’s grown since then and my ambitions for it have also. Right now I’m focusing on sharing my adventures from the AT along with comprehensive gear reviews of everything I used on the trail. Moving forward,this blog is becoming a platform in which to share my adventures, whether that be far afield or closer to home.

Travel is a huge part of my life, I’ve been lucky enough to be travelling periodically for the last five years, visiting the US extensively, Asia, South America and Antarctica to name just a few. I met my wonderful Finnish girlfriend five years ago in Mexico city and in 2012 I made the move from my hometown in Essex, England to Helsinki, Finland to join her in her home town.

Travel and Adventure Travel are going to be the focus of pieonthetrail.wordpress.com, trip reports, sightseeing advice for city breaks, travel tips, travel gear etc. However I plan on sharing a number of my passions through the Blog, including;

    • Motorcycle adventures for the new rider
    • Paleo health and fitness
    • Self development tips and tactics

I look forward to sharing my adventures with you and hope to inspire more people to break out of their comfort zones and live adventurously.

  2. Hi. Yes personal preference, many people were using hammocks on the trail and loved them, I even a slept in a friends once or twice. I plan on playing around with them in the future, do you use one? What do you think?

  3. Pie! What’s up man? This is Cesar, we connected on YT before. Dude, I am trying to organize a meet up for ULers in Northern Europe for this summer, which I started up the idea for on the UL Reddit sub. I was not sure to get a hold of you, could not find your email (feel free to email me), so figured this might work. Anyhow, you said you wanted to collaborate, and I think this project would be great to work together on! I am fine with the planning, and it would be great if you could join us, but it wold also be cool if someone talented were to document it, like say in a cool YT vid (wink wink). Anyhow, hope you are doing well, digging your videos still, keep up the good work! I have been so busy still that on my end things have slowed down a lot, but I still have a lot in the works for the future. Keep in touch and happy trails!

  4. Hey Cesar great to hear from you!

    That sounds like a great idea to me, I’d definitely be interested. I do have some trips planned for the summer so let’s talk about dates and make it happen. Where were you thinking and how long for?
